Breaking the Color Line in Medicine: Summary Comments
Congratulations on the fine book... It is very well written and will be an important publication for many decades. (Bronwyn, Colorado)

I spent several hours yesterday afternoon and last night and went through the book from cover to cover. It is extremely well written! (Axel, Tennessee)

I found it very impressive. It was beautifully bound and the photos and displays very appealing. The writing was crisp and easy. Congratulations. (Alfredo, California)

... excellent job! ....it can be a great educational tool for today's youth in stimulating their interest to pursue a career in healthcare.... with the healthcare industry experiencing a shortage of minority talent. Less than two percent of presidents, chief executive officers, and chief operating officers of healthcare organizations are minorities. Your book is definitely an inspiration to those like myself in the industry to "keep on, keepin' on!" I believe it's just as important that the book be in the Boys & Girls Clubs (along with a mentoring component).... What better way to captivate, stimulate, and educate the future. (Forrest, Illinois)
I would like to congratulate you on the publication of your text.... I found the book to be a most interesting review of the history of the importance of African Americans in Ophthalmology in the United States.... As an alumnus of the residency training program, I was profoundly affected by three of the people listed in your book... (Douglas, California)

I wanted to congratulate you on a job very well done.... The book is delightful... (Lanning, Alabama)

I enjoyed your article very much and was pleased to see you also have a larger publication this year as well. These are issues that are most important to raise and you have done so in your usual articulate way. (Richard, Maine)

Just a short note to say "way to go" on your new book. News such as this is very positive and inspirational. (Pat, Missouri)

I can not thank you enough... It is a wonderful book and extremely well written. (Maurice, Mississippi)

I am very proud.... to have worked with many of the people you have included in the book. Congratulations. We still have a long way to go in attracting qualified underrepresented ethnic minorities to ophthalmology. (Thomas, Iowa)

Congratulations.... it tells a story that needs to be told, and tells it well. (Robert, California)

Brief calculus and its applications
Published in Hardcover by Houghton Mifflin ()
Author: Daniel D. Benice
Average review score:

Great for Business and Economic Professionals!!
I have used this book to teach business students calculus. It is a great book for business or economic professionals who are interested in having an understanding of the calculus behind there professions. It is not overly technical in a scientific way. The word problems are real life and are great practice for real life situations in finance or accounting or economics. The technology sections are good practice for handheld computers or matlab or others. As a business professional, I recommend this book to "keep in shape" and use it to apply to their projects.

Bringing Your Church Back to Life: Beyond Survival Mentality
Published in Paperback by Judson Pr (September, 1988)
Author: Daniel L. Buttry
Average review score:

A great book on the challenges of small church ministry!
The author accurately portrays the struggles and challenges that smaller congregations and their pastors face. His outline of five characteristics of churches with the illness of survival mentality is particularly accurate and helpful in understanding the mindset of church leaders in a congregation that has experienced decline. He doesn't end it there, however, he goes on to give the good news and point the way to renewal. His concept of the church leader as vision bearer has been helpful to me as I have recently begun my first pastorate in a struggling urban church. If you pastor a small church, or are involved with a church that is in need of renewal, read this book and share it with others. You will be glad that you did!

Britain Under Thatcher (Seminar Studies in History)
Published in Textbook Binding by Longman (October, 1999)
Authors: Anthony Seldon and Daniel Collings
Average review score:

The essential introduction to the Thatcher years
Having read this short but densely packed account of the Thatcher years, I can fully recommend it to any student of contemporary British politics and history.

It is extremely accessible to students at all levels, as well as teachers, tutors and professors who want to brush up on their 1980s politics. The first part of the Seminar Study neatly captures the early troubles, the government's belated ascendancy after 1983 and the makings of the PM's downfall after 1987. The final section provides the key critiques of the Thatcher government's profile in history. From left to right, these critiques bring alive the controversy that surrounded the 1979-90 government and its enduring legacy on recent adminstrations.

A fine introduction to a fascinating period of twentieth century British political history with chronology and sources to boot. A word of praise must also go to co-author, Daniel Collings, who made his publishing debut whilst still a finalist at Keble College, Oxford. His esteemed tutor, Larry Siedontrop - a prolific author in his own right, must be very proud.

Broadway Boogie Woogie: Damon Runyon and the Making of New York City Culture
Published in Hardcover by Palgrave Macmillan (April, 2003)
Author: Daniel R. Schwarz
Average review score:

Wiseguy World
BROADWAY BOOGIE WOOGIE situates Runyon's stories and reportage in their New York, circa 1929-1946, context and tells us why Runyon's work still matters. The seriousness and skill that Schwarz used in earlier books to examine the writings of High Modernism (Conrad, Joyce, Woolf, Wallace Stevens) he uses here to illuminate the "wiseguy" world of BROADWAY BOOGIE WOOGIE. With insight and compassion Schwarz re-visits this world of gamblers, gangsters, swindlers, womanizers, and cheats and looks at America's ever present yearning to "take a walk on the wild side." The book should appeal to not only students and scholars in American Studies, 20th Century American History, Urban and Immigration History, Working-Class Studies, and American Literature, but also to anyone who simply loves New York.

Buddhish in the Sung (Studies in East Asian Buddhism, 13)
Published in Paperback by University of Hawaii Press (November, 2002)
Authors: Peter N. Gregory, Da A., Jr. Getz, Daniel Aaron Getz, and Ding-Hwa Evelyn Hsieh
Average review score:

Sung Buddhism
Studies of Buddhism in China continue to flourish, and this is an excellent collection of essays that showcase the strengths of a historically-informed understanding of this religious tradition. Hawaii continues to lead the field in its publication of high-quality monographs and essay-collections on Buddhism. Some of the essays in the collection are stronger than others, though on the whole, this is a quite readable scholarly work. Shinohara's essay is especially good.

Bunnicula Fun Book
This activity book is wonderful, kids can use it by themselves, or there are activities that a whole classroom can use. There is a nice variety of drawing pages, informational pages, a couple of mad libs, and even some knock-knock jokes. I bought this for my class, and they have really enjoyed using it.
